Nigerian Army kills nine Boko Haram members in shootout



The Nigerian Army on Thursday said nine suspected Boko Haram members were killed in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, on Wednesday during a gun battle.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the 3 Division of the Army, Eli Lazarus, the army said soldiers engaged the suspected terrorists in a battle at about 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday when the latter launched an attack in Buni Yadi, headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of the state.


He also said that parts of the local government headquarters were torched by the terrorists during the attack including two buildings in the military camp.

Mr. Lazarus, while enjoining residents to remain calm, said the battalion has since reinforced the areas to prevent any such attacks.

He said the battalion and other security agencies will continue to synergize efforts in a bid to rid the state of terrorist activities through collaboration between security agencies and residents of the state.

He called on resident to continue to give timely and credible information to agencies to support the fight against terrorism.
